Insight is a powerful "top-down" process. Reflection and language help us understand why we struggle. But here's the catch: you can intellectually know you are safe, yet your body may still act as if it is under constant threat.
This is because your nervous system responds before conscious thought. It detects danger and automatically engages emotional reflexes. Subconscious survival states—hyper-vigilance, catastrophizing, bracing—take over during chronic stress, creating predictable patterns of tension and restriction in your fascia and muscles, leaving you ready to fight, flee, or freeze.
We are wired to survive. It takes presence, breath, training, and belonging to thrive.
