Why Insight Alone Isn't Enough
Hauʻoli Makahiki Hou! Happy New Year! Manigong Bagong Taon!
As we cross the threshold into 2026, I am filled with deep gratitude, deep aloha for this community - maraming salamat po sa inyong lahat 💖. Whether you have been with me since my return to Oʻahu or are new to this circle, your trust and presence have been the greatest gifts of the past year. 🙏✨
This New Year/Bagong Taon/Makahiki season brings a fresh start and renewed wishes for collective prosperity, especially in mind, body, and spirit - the essence of the Filipino concept maginhawa. The act of pairing individual and collective ritual during the New Year with intention, whether through art, song, food, laughter and/or dance, helps seed these resolutions, these “new ways of being” in the body. But it takes practice and commitment to grow into them.
True renewal isn't just about making mental resolutions; it's about creating a physiological foundation that allows them to take root.
Why Mind-Body Energy Medicine?
As we look toward a year of greater ease, it's vital to understand what often stands in our way.
Insight Alone Isn't Enough
Insight is a powerful "top-down" process. Reflection and language help us understand why we struggle. But here's the catch: you can intellectually know you are safe, yet your body may still act as if it is under constant threat.
This is because your nervous system responds before conscious thought. It detects danger and engages emotional reflexes automatically. Subconscious survival states—hyper-vigilance, catastrophizing, bracing—take over during chronic stress, creating predictable patterns of tension and restriction in your fascia and muscles, leaving you ready to fight, flee, or freeze.
We are wired to survive. It takes presence, breath, training, and belonging to thrive.
For instance, a New Year’s resolution that calls you to be more visible in the community or to rest and be more balanced may be interpreted as a threat if your system has learned that staying small and isolated keeps you safe or that busyness equals worthiness. These subconscious blocks need a multi-pronged mind-body approach to overcome these protective reactions.
The Hidden Cost of "Pushing Through"
Survival states—such as sympathetic arousal (fight/flight) or dorsal shutdown (freeze)—are designed to be temporary. They evolved to give us a burst of focus and energy to escape danger. But current systems expect us to "push through" the need to rest and reset, and these survival states become a familiar, albeit extremely uncomfortable, baseline.
This creates cumulative wear and tear on your entire mind-body system. Your body begins conserving resources at all costs, inhibiting "non-essential" functions like digestion, deep sleep, immune repair—and also joy, creativity, and rest. When the sympathetic nervous system, designed for short bursts, runs as a permanent state, you feel bloated, tired, foggy, anxious, wired, hypersensitive or numb—sometimes all at once—because your body is breaking down faster than it can rebuild. Without time for ease and recovery, the body functions at a chronic deficit. Eventually, multiple states of dis-ease can take hold.
How We Help Your Body Feel Safe Again
At Mind-Body Energy Medicine, we don't just talk about safety—we help your body feel it.
Fascia, our essential connective framework, provides structure, support, and lubrication for muscles, organs, nerves, and vessels, enabling efficient movement, force transmission, and integrated bodily function. It also acts as a dynamic sensory organ that influences posture, stability, circulation, and even hormonal balance. Fascia is a sensory, electrical, and vibration system that constantly reads the world through frequency. Using Reiki, sound therapy, orasyon/affirmations, frequency microcurrent, vibrational percussion, and gentle chiropractic instrument adjusting, we communicate directly with your nervous system and fascia through the language it understands: vibration, touch, sound, and energetic coherence.
This helps shift your body from pain, tension, and defense toward repair and reorganization, restoring safety throughout your entire body-mind matrix. You receive customized recommendations to sustain shifts between sessions. And this work augments the effectiveness of other healing approaches such as indigenous/traditional medicine, mental health support, movement therapies, medication, physical therapy, and nutrition. It becomes easier to handle life’s ups and downs, insights shift more deeply and readily, and we can better embody the ease, clarity, compassion, joy and prosperity we wish for every New Year.
The Messy Middle of Transformation
Healing is rarely linear. When your nervous system finally feels safe enough to process what it's been holding, the "messy middle" often emerges: buried emotions surface, fight-or-flight energy that never got to complete finally moves through, and physical sensations you've numbed for years come back online.
This is not a setback—it's integration.
Insight guides healing, but nervous system integration is what makes it real.
Having a multi-visit plan ensures you have support through this process. You'll build the trust that you'll emerge on the other side lighter, calmer, less reactive, with clearer thinking, deeper self-compassion, better communication, and stronger relationships.
Commit to Your Consistency
Deep physiological shifts require consistency. Just as chronic stress accumulates over time, rewiring a nervous system back to safety requires repetition, pacing, and gentle titration. Having a care team that includes mind-body practitioners can be a game-changer, improving your quality of life for years to come.

Dr. Chris is amazing! I had a health breakthrough a few days after the attunement. So grateful for her wisdom and generosity.
I didn't think I would be able to actually 'feel' the energy of the person I practiced on in class, so when I did, it startled me at first. Then, I felt happy knowing that I was helping that person release some of that energy. Eye-opening experience for certain! Thank you for this opportunity to learn new things that will help myself and others.
